First Semester Done!
If I had to sum up my first semester in university in one word, I would describe it as a roller-coaster. It was one hell of a ride and glad to say it had more ups than downs :) Everyday was a learning process and I'm better prepared for the upcoming semester, even better, I'm excited. Yes I did make some mistakes in my first semester (but who doesn't), and I think because of those mistakes, I now know what NOT to do in my coming semesters.
There's this saying that goes something like, 'High school is the best 4 years of your life' and I for one, would beg to differ. Sad to say but with switching schools constantly I have been shown what distance and time does to friendships. The past two years at my last high school before graduating were amazing. But soon after starting university I figured out that the people that I was friends in high school, were only my friends because I saw them eight hours a day, five times in a week. Starting university, I have made friends that I know will be with me forever. In high school, everyone to some extent was forced to be there; but in university, you chose to be there and further your education yourself. No teacher or professor is going to hunt you down because you didn't do well on a test or forgot to hand in assignment. It's ultimately up to you to get everything done and handed in on time.
The people you meet, good and bad, in university all choose to be there. Anyone can get a job at the local McDonald's and spend the rest of their lives working at the greasy fast food place. I feel like that's one of the major differences between high school and university. Sometimes the class sizes differ and make me feel like I'm back in grade 12. I sometimes go from a lecture hall filled with 100+ students to a classroom with only 15.
But I'm glad to say that even though some of the friends I've met in university I only see for an hour at the most in one week, I know if I ever needed anything they would be the first to know. I've met some incredible people and I'm glad to have them in my life. I now have people that I can call up at 2 A.M and ask them for favors and they would complete them without a complaint, because they know I would do the same for them anytime or place :)
All in all my first semester in university was a huge success in my opinion. I learned a lot about myself from the mistakes I made and glad to say lesson learned. Lost some friends but I gained some better friends that I've made some incredible memories with that will last a lifetime :) Still trying to work on not procrastinating as much but I'm getting there :) Baby steps. Excited for the upcoming semester.
