First Week of Uni Conquered!
Wow this past week has been hectic. But a really good hectic :) I have conquered university (for the most part). My first ever class was in the BIGGEST lecture hall on campus that seats up to 300 students (i think; may or may not exaggerate cause i was too nervous to pay attention properly) and let's just say note taking and is totally different in university than it is in high school! My hand hurt from writing for 2 hours straight. Definetly with practice I'll be a pro at short point form notes :)
One thing I have to work on is just planning on where all my classes are and how to get there on time. At times I get a bit overwhelmed cause its a different place with so many different buildings. For me it takes time to get used to a new place. I'm what you would call "directionally challenged".
Funny story, in 1 of the buildings, the tim hortons and library are connected and you can go from one to the other by walking down a hallway. I didn't know that, so I walked out of tim hortons, walked all the way around to the other side of the building to go into the library. Until I was hanging out with a friend did i figure out that the two were both connected and in the same building. Guess that's what happens you are a little challenged, figure things out with experience.
Another thing I have/want to work on is becoming a bit more social! :) I'm so excited because being at university allows me to interact with so many different people, studying different things, all in different stages of university. Slowly coming out of my quiet shell; which i'm really proud of! :)
Taking the initiative to be the one to smile at a stranger and make some conversation first. Whether it be to just ask if the seat next to them is taken or to crack a joke about how directionally challenged I am. Who knows, I might just make a new friendship that lasts for years.
One new thing that I have now acquired to do in university that I didn't know how to do in high school is to go 'book hunting'. In high school, all the textbooks were there for us, ready to use right after we signed them out from the library. In university, we need to buy all of our textbooks. And let me tell you some are sooo expensive! One of my textbooks that I need for my Geography class at the university bookstore is $175 (brand-new). But online for a used textbook is $60-85. New skill developed.....scrounging the internet for used textbooks.
First week of university....a huge success in my opinion. And I'm excited to see what happens from now on.
